Senior Project Manager

We are seeking resumes from qualified Senior Project Manager candidates to join our civil/environmental department in our Hickory, NC Regional Office.  The goal of this position is to transition into the Regional Manager position within 12 months. 

The successful candidate will have a hands-on approach and be committed to the expansion and success of the regional office implementing strategies that increase the client base, increase billings/bookings/backlog, maintain high productivity and profitability, enable achievement of regional and company goals, and promotes team work within a positive environment. This position will report to the Director of Civil/Environmental Engineering. 

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Formulate and oversee business development, marketing, and strategic planning for the regional office with assistance from the corporate office to achieve the Hickory Regional office goals.

  • Supervise and monitor client relationship strategies; serve as the primary client contact for clients in western NC.

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the firm’s policies and applicable laws.

  • Direct and supervise staff activities within the regional office including hiring, terminations, performance reviews and conflict resolution.

  • Serve as senior level project engineer for quality assurance/control purposes and technical advisor applying appropriate problems solving skills.

  • Serve as senior project manager on key projects.

  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and accept responsibility for the profitability of assigned projects.

  • Prepare and monitor project schedules ensuring timely completion of projects.

  • Provide oversight of construction contract administration for regional office projects not being performed from the corporate office.

  • Coordinate with practice areas within Department and other departments to facilitate potential and ongoing work.

  • Coordinate marketing and develop task scoping and fee estimation for proposed projects.

  • Develop engineering services agreements for projects with review and approval by the Department Head.

  • Assist with development of probable construction cost estimates for projects.

  • Attend client meetings (during and after-hours) to ensure continued client presence.

  • Maintain control of project work‐in‐process to ensure accurate client billings. Monitor outstanding accounts receivables and be assertive in collection efforts on projects.

  • Direct preparation and modification of funding applications, reports, specifications, plans, construction documents, studies, permits and designs for various projects, assisting engineering, CADD and administrative staff as needed.

  • Visit construction sites to monitor progress and stay abreast of construction activities in order to provide Owners accurate updates.

  • Routinely network in the community/western NC to improve the presence and reputation in the region and company.

  • Stay abreast of competing markets and provide updates on local market activities.

  • Oversee the daily operations of the regional office. Maintain general supervision over all activities for which the regional office is responsible to ensure technical and financial competence of the regional office.

  • Monitor and approve time sheets and expense reports for branch office personnel.

  • Monitor and approve internal office purchase requirements and external project-related subcontracting for regional office projects.

  • Provide oversight to production efforts ensuring that company standards are followed and communicate with Department Head as necessary to facilitate change in standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer licensed in State of NC.

  • Minimum 15 years of engineering experience.

  • Previous supervisory and management experience preferred.

  • Excellent project management and client development experience necessary.

  • Proven ability to meet project financial and production/schedule goals.

  • Experience in local government capital improvement planning, design, bidding and construction.

  • Must have good interpersonal and management skills to communicate effectively in English to target audiences, both in written and oral form, and presentation skills.

  • Act in a manner that will protect and represent the Company with the utmost integrity at all times including client relationships, development of new business and employee relations.

  • Possess problem-solving skills and reasoning abilities.

  • Be able to lead, motivate, develop and train regional office employees to reach the common goals of the regional office and the company. Encourage fulfillment of personal goals and objectives.

  • Have ability to travel, with some overnight stays, as position requires.

  • Strong computer skills required, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
