Apex's 12-inch Water Main Extension Across Highway 1
Creative design protects stream from environmental impacts
The US Highway 1 project included preliminary engineering analysis of the Town of Apex’s water system and design of 12” and 16” water mains in the vicinity of US-1 and Highway 55. New water mains served to replace aging mains as well as provide redundant feeds and interconnections to other portions of the system. Project design avoided all environmental impacts, including Neuse River Buffers, by utilizing trenchless installations for stream crossings. Final design included a 560’ Bore and Jack to cross NCDOT Controlled Access Right-of-Way portion of US-1, which was extended slightly to avoid of jurisdictional wetlands. Scope of services included preliminary engineering analysis through final design, permitting, bidding, and award.
