The Wooten Company provided plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and fire protection engineering design services for this five-story building with 150,000 square feet of floor space. A computerized energy study using TRACE 600 was used to determine the most effective and efficient HVAC and electrical systems so that the annual energy budget of 42,000 BTUH/S.F./yr. established by the client, could be accomplished. This is the most energy efficient building owned by Wake County.
In order to reduce the operating cost of the HVAC system in half, an Ice Thermal Storage system was designed in lieu of conventional chillers and in conjunction with low temperature variable air volume. An indirect lighting system was designed to keep the lighting level of no more than 1.0 watt/square foot. We designed a computerized energy management system to monitor and control HVAC equipment and electrical lighting. The fire protection system includes a sprinkler system for the entire building.
