Building Systems Group | Richmond Community College Classroom and Vocational Training Building

The 19,010 SF facility on the campus of Richmond Community College features a nurse training center and a vocational training center. The nurse training center houses LPN and CPN teaching classrooms, computer classrooms and a 100-seat community room. The vocational training center house classrooms to teach HVAC mechanical system repairs, welding and steel fabrication. The Wooten Company was responsible for the architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil and site design, including landscape architecture. Specific features of this project include extensive landscaping with wetlands and bioretention ponds to control site stormwater. The mechanical system includes a state of the art variable volume refrigeration system which is energy efficient and allows for individual temperature control for each classroom and community area. The electrical design includes programmable lighting controls for each classroom and adjustable light levels depending on the amount of daylight in the space. Lighting controls also include occupancy sensors for energy conservation. The nursing suite is divided into separate areas for Certified Nurse Assistant and Licensed Practical Nurse training. Each area includes a classroom with 24 computer work stations, simulation lab, medical supplies and classroom storage areas.
