Building Systems Group | New Fire Station
The Wooten Company provided architecture and engineering design services for the conversion of an existing office building into a new fire station for the City of Clinton. The City purchased a former bank building near other city offices in downtown Clinton for conversion into a 4,117 square foot fire station. Design included a 5,328 square foot addition to provide four drive-through bays, each large enough to store two 30 foot fire trucks.
The floor plan of the existing building remained, with only the addition of two showers to the men’s and women’s toilets, a hall connection to the truck bays, and a new sink and space for refrigerator. All new wall covering and carpeting were provided for in the design.
The City of Clinton had one request for the conversion of the former CP&L Building into their Central Fire Station: that the building look like a fire station. Metal panels and a sloped roof were used to contrast the existing flat roof and brick veneer office building from the truck bay addition, which stands alone from the existing building. Full glass truck bay doors were provided on the public street elevation of the truck bay, putting the fire trucks on display to passing traffic. The result is similar to a retail shop display window that presents the fire trucks in such a way that there is no doubt about the buildings occupants.
