Building Systems Group

Our Building Systems Group provides mechanical/electrical/plumbing and architecture. Our engineers work with other architects and owners to provide high quality design to ensure project success. We are proud to say that we have been involved with over 40 schools in Wake County – either new construction or renovation. In addition, we have provided engineering services for hospitals, community facilities, offices, universities, and private facilities. Our job is to work seamlessly with the architect of record to deliver a successful building to the owner.

Our architects focus on community projects including town halls, fire/police stations, agricultural buildings, and specialty niches like elevator renovation. We assist communities with securing financing for qualifying projects by identifying the resources and providing the necessary preliminary space needs assessments required by the funding agencies.

The Wooten Company has always incorporated elements of sustainable design and energy efficiency into our designs.  However, as the demand and desire for more stringent and enhanced sustainable design features grow, we are encouraging our engineers and designers to further incorporate this higher level of ‘green’ engineering into their designs.  To this end, many of our engineers and architects have become LEED Accredited Professionals and we have begun offering commissioning services.  We have a certified commissioning agent on staff.

As we work to have more professionals accredited, we conduct in-house training on LEED, low impact design, and other sustainable practices.

GIS/ GPS/ IMS Services

The Wooten Company’s approach is one of cooperation with the client. We can work with each client to resolve any Geographic Information System (GIS) needs. Our GIS team has supported projects such as: creation and maintenance of Internet Map Servers (IMS), consulting for GIS services, infrastructure inventory and asset management (GASB 34), infrastructure capacity studies, water distribution models, community development, emergency services, land use plans, stormwater mapping, street mapping, tax map update and conversion, elevation analysis, spatial analysis, soil suitability, zoning, and subdivision ordinance updates. We take pride in our diversity of experience but ultimately it is our clients who experience the benefits.

We also have significant experience in converting data from a variety of digital formats, printed maps, and drawings into a digital format to suit you. Because we use a variety of software, including ArcGIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Eagle Point, and WaterCAD, we are able to convert most design drawings and maps to your desired format. Scanning of older drawings can often save space, time, and money. We can get your data into a GIS.

As you may know, GIS is perfectly suited to inventory and map public infrastructure. Identifying infrastructure feature locations and infrastructure attributes not only helps you more easily and efficiently manage the maintenance and construction of your infrastructure systems but dovetails with land development planning and economic development which have become critical needs for many of our clients.

We can assist in capturing a community’s infrastructure data. Our surveyors and Global Positioning System (GPS) personnel form the nucleus of a team that can map and inventory your infrastructure assets. The survey and GPS teams have experience with the latest GPS and GIS technology. We utilize a variety of GPS equipment from hand-held models capable of accuracies within ten centimeters to survey grade equipment capable of sub-centimeter accuracy. Maximizing our efficiency, our mobile GIS capabilities enable us to work anywhere as we do in the office. We deploy the appropriate staff and equipment for your project.

IMS can provide the public with access to infrastructure information via the internet. We can help you design an interface for an IMS that provides the right functions to allow the public to browse data layers such as: infrastructure service areas, zoning, tax data, flood hazards, streets, bus stops, hotels, locations of emergency/health services, and much more. You have the flexibility to decide which data to make available through the IMS. Citizens, elected and appointed officials have the capability to get answers to their questions online.
