This project encompassed the preparation of land use regulations for a 182-square mile county in eastern North Carolina. The project included the preparation of a county-wide zoning ordinance and an update of existing subdivision regulations to ensure compatibility and consistency with the new zoning ordinance. Major components of the project included a parcel-by-parcel existing land use study and land classification system, GIS mapping, public-community involvement and interaction, development of a zoning ordinance document, and revision of the existing subdivision ordinance.

The county-wide zoning ordinance and revisions to the subdivision regulations were adopted by Chowan County in October 2006.

The Wooten Company has also recently assisted Pitt County, Wilson County, White Lake, and the North Carolina Global TransPark Authority with the preparation of zoning ordinances.
