Project List

<<   Previous ProjectNext Project  >>

This wastewater treatment plant is designed to treat 1.076 mil. gallons per day of wastewater. Raw wastewater is pumped 3.7 miles from Town through an 18-inch force main to the plant site. Preliminary treatment is provided by a partially aerated facultative stabilization/storage lagoon. The stabilization/storage lagoon provides 45 days storage over and above the minimum treatment pool depth, and, at full depth, has a water surface area of 28 acres. It is constructed with a natural clay liner. Pretreated wastewater is sprayed by an irrigation pump station featuring two 4,020 gpm pumps. The wastewater sprayfield cover crop consists of hardwood plantations of sycamore and sweetgum trees, as well as a smaller acreage of pine trees. Tree growth is periodically monitored by researchers at North Carolina State University, and the system is yielding record hardwood tree growth. Total sprayfield size is 288 wetted acres.
