<< Previous ProjectNext Project >> The project included the addition of a 1,700 seat concert hall, a 600 seat theater and a 50 seat experimental theater to the existing 2,100 seat main auditorium. The project adds 120,000 square feet to the existing facility. The overall project was divided into five separate phases to add three additions to the existing Memorial Auditorium. The design coordination efforts between different disciplines become of paramount importance. There is probably no more complicated a project for electrical design coordination. There are numerous different lighting, power, sound and control systems that have to be coordinated. The plumbing, mechanical and electrical designs incorporate some very unique aspects. The design team had to develop very specific paths for rain water to be drained from the numerous multi-level roofs in the center. The supply air system in the Concert Hall is unique in that the supply air is distributed primarily under the seats of the main hall. In addition, the air handling system was designed to also be the smoke removal system for the hall. The City of Raleigh inspection authorities were pleasantly surprised at the effective smoke removal in the main hall. The lighting systems in the buildings were designed not only to meet the eloquence of the interior spaces, but also had to be designed to meet the requirements of the North Carolina Energy Code. |
