The Wooten Company provided engineering design services for the entire project, including civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. The mechanical and electrical engineering work involves extensive renovation throughout 175,670 square feet of a three-story building. The school is a historic structure built in 1928 and extended in 1951, which compounded the difficulties of locating new pipes, ducts and equipment within the building. Old and outdated equipment was removed and the building was brought up to N.C. Building Code Standards with new systems. The work was done in four stages so that most of the school could remain in operation during renovations.
