Elevator Modernization, Wake County Courthouse

The Wooten Company provided architectural and engineering design services for the modernization and refurbishment of four elevators
in this 14-story building. The project consisted of modernizing the elevators with new group controls to comply with the latest
requirements of ASME 1-17.1 elevator code, handicapped code, and ADA Guidelines. The Fayetteville Mall Elevator Lobby was
enclosed with two hour rated construction, and a sprinkler system was installed to provide a protected enclosure to the exterior of the
courthouse. The Salisbury Street Pedestrian Entrance Life Safety Upgrades included a two hour rated enclosure and sprinklers. The
stair towers were provided with a two hour rated horizontal exit connecting them to the building's exterior. Both the elevator lobby
and pedestrian entrance were equipped with metal detectors, cameras and check tables providing secure entrances to the courthouse.
Elevator Modernization and Refurbishment in the Cooper Building

The Wooten Company, along with vertical transportation consultants, provided architectural, electrical, and mechanical engineering design services for the modernization and refurbishment of two Westinghouse passenger elevators with a duty of 2500pounds, serving the first through the sixth floors. The elevator speed was increased for two hundred and fifty feet per minute to three hundred and fifty feet per minute. Elevator work included new machines, motion controllers, leveling devices, hoistway doors and associated hardware. The project provided new cabs complete with safety plank and buffers. Electrical work included extensive demolition of the existing systems and their replacement. Specific electrical work included new power feed for the elevator, pit and machine room lighting, fire alarm replacement for the elevator capture, and building safety. Mechanical work included extensive demolition in the machine room to provide machine room cooling and ventilation. Architectural provided hazardous material abatement, repair and new fire rated wall in both the shaft and machine room as well as compliance with the ADA and North Carolina Building Code accessibility requirements.

The project involved making Life Safety and Building Code requirement renovations to both buildings’ elevators systems. Existing equipment circuit color coding was corrected. Smoke detectors and terminal cabinets with addressable loops for elevator capture, and new light fixtures were provided for all elevators and shafts in both buildings, and self-contained air conditioning systems were provided for each elevator equipment room. The Wooten Company provided all architectural and electrical design for this project.
